Dr Philip Kennedy


Dr Philip Kennedy graduated in Medicine from the University of Sydney in 1980 and gained Fellowship in the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in 1988.  Following two years of post-Fellowship experience in London, he commenced surgical practice in Tamworth in 1990.

Dr Kennedy has been at the forefront of developing new and innovative surgical techniques in Tamworth and has extensive experience in both emergency and elective surgery, operating from both Tamara Private Hospital and Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital (TRRH) for both public and private patients. His area of expertise is in General Surgery and includes breast surgery, (full member of the Breast section in the RACS), head and neck surgery, colorectal surgery (both open and laparoscopic), hernia surgery and endoscopic procedures (fully accredited for upper endoscopy and colonoscopy with GESA).

Dr Kennedy has strong connections with undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching in surgery and is a Supervisor for the training of surgeons in Tamworth as he believes this is the best way of encouraging young doctors and surgeons to practice in the country. He also supervises surgery in Moree District Hospital and is currently both the Director of Surgery and the Medical Director of Surgical Services at TRRH.
